Salt Lake Home Builders Committees

Activities Committee: Chairman, Tyke Martin

This committee assists with the planning, implementation and coordination of recreational activities for Association members and their families. These events often include golf tournaments, family picnics, movie premiers, and other types of sporting events.

Community Service Committee: Chairman, Jared Barnard

This committee oversees the charitable arm and activities of the Salt Lake Home Builders Association (most notably the Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build and the Parade of Playhouses), provides opportunities for the community-at-large to be involved with the Association, and assists with the implementation of the Salt Lake Parade of Homes™.

Education Committee: Chairman, Chad Harward

This committee coordinates training and educational opportunities for Association members. It also assists with the design and implementation of training programs that meet the professional development/continuing education requirements for licensed contractors as specified by Utah State law.

Ethics Committee: Chairman, Brendan Seal

This group is responsible for enforcing the Association’s Code of Ethics, with which each member agrees to abide.  The committee receives and reviews complaints from the public concerning member-builders and attempts to resolve the matter through negotiation.

Government Affairs Committee: Chairman, Curt Dowdle, EO

This committee gathers and distributes information about, and assists with, regulatory and legislative issues at the county and municipal levels that affect Association members.  Activities may include contacting elected and appointed officials, lobbying, and testifying at meetings.

Membership Committee: Chairman, Kim Anderson

This standing committee develops, implements, coordinates and assists with programs to help retain current members of the Association and recruit new members.

Public Relations Committee: Chairman, Karen Daniels

The Public Relations Committee assists with the development, implementation and coordination of programs and projects that promote the Salt Lake Home Builders Association and the home building industry. This includes interaction with local media outlets and developing the content for the Association’s monthly e-Newsletter and Website.

Salt Lake Parade of Homes™ Committee: Chairman, Leslie Shell

This committee plans, organizes, implements and coordinates all aspects of the annual Salt Lake Parade of Homes™; the hallmark event conducted by the Association. It boasts a proud tradition of being the first and largest event of its type in the State.

Total Resource Committee: Chairman, Gary Goodwin

This committee helps Association members promote their businesses by offering a myriad of sponsorship, exhibit, and advertising options through the Salt Lake Home Builders Association. It helps members select the options that best accomplish their marketing objectives within their promotional parameters.

Salt Lake Home Builders Association Councils

Builder / Developers Council: Chairman, Chris McCandless
***ONLY BUILDERS AND DEVELOPERS CAN JOIN THIS COMMITTEE ***

Monitors and analyzes proposed land use regulations for changes affecting the industry.  Attends regular meetings of local planning commissions and reports to the membership any regulations affecting development.  Recommends changes to existing regulations to improve their effect on the industry.

The Developers Council works with local, state and federal government officials, as well as the public, to encourage collaborative efforts in solving land use problems.  Additionally, this Council testifies at public hearings to convey the industry’s position on land use issues.  We provide educational and networking opportunities for members and government policy-makers.  Responds to issues of concern raised by developer members of the association and develops appropriate responses. Annual Fee $1000.00 minimum

Remodelors Council: Chairman, Robert Myers 

Membership in the Remodelors™ Council is doubly beneficial because it entitles you to the advantages and help provided by both the Salt Lake Home Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders. The Remodelors Council is committed to improved management and technical competency of council members, excellence in service to the consumer, and effective government representation of remodelers’ interests at the federal, state, and local levels.  Working in partnership with these two respected organizations, you will have the tools you need to build your remodeling business.  Annual Fee $50.00
